Jon-Benet Joke

I've seen all three episodes of this show so far, and I think it's a pretty funny. I also know that the main appeal of it for some people is that it's outrageously offensive. However, I think there still should be a line of tastefullness that shouldn't be crossed and I tbink Jeff crossed it on tonight's episode. This is what bothered me a bit: he was making a joke about the beauty pageant star Honey Booboo Child, saying "say what you will about Jon Benet's parents,, but at least Jon Benet was sexy". WTF!? Seriously!? Who, other than a pedophile would consider an 6 year old sexy? I don't get offended by much, but this really turned me off and made me wonder about Mr. Ross. And what makes it worse was that it wasn't really even a joke. Anyone else bothered by this at all?

There IS NO line. Period. Ever. How can you enjoy the show, or even like Jeff Ross, and not accept and know this? Comedians like Jeff Ross, Doug Stanhope, Jim Norton, etc will NEVER back down, and they most certainly do not believe in "crossing any lines".

I'm a big fan of being able to speak freely. About any topic, situation, person, etc. Nothing is off limits. If Ross is told to "chill out", then I will personally stop watching. I don't believe in censorship. If people are offended, turn the channel. That simple.

Yeah, I think you're right. Some of the jokes about Tony Scott at the end were totally in bad taste, but on this show nothing's off limits, and I do know that going in. However, I still can't believe he would say a 6 year old was sexy. It's not so much that it was offensive as it was creepy and wrong.

There was at least one episode of this show that was full of gay jokes, and nobody seemed to mind. The whole point of shows like this is that you can say stuff that would cause a huge fuss on "regular" programming.

Well said houseofmirrors.

Has anyone in this family ever even seen a chicken?

reply

This. What this show and the roasts do is provide an arena where nothing is "off-limits", and television needs that. No line, no remorse.

The problem was that it just wasn't that funny compared to most everything else he does, so when the joke was kinda flat it came off more cruel or weird. I guarantee Jeff Ross could make a funny Jon Benet joke or two.

100% agree. It seemed like more of a straight opinion than a joke.

He obviously doesn't actually think she was sexy. It was shocking. He said it to get a rise out of you, and I guess he did his job.

"Oh, my God. Bear is driving! How can that be?!"

reply

Eh, in all honesty, Jon-Benet wasn't that hot without makeup..
