The Ratings Have Been Awful and No Awards

What the hell is wrong with people. Like I have pretty much given up on the masses having any sense in humor, but whats up with the awards shows. How does this guy fooling pretty much the entire world repeatedly, coming up with brilliantly stupid ideas, and making one of the funniest shows on television without any need for "edginess" or "meanness" or laughing at people for their differences, go unnoticed. The Voice? The Voice wins awards for best reality shows and this doesnt get nominated.

And before anyone misreads this as an insult; this is my favorite show on TV right now and ive bought 2 summit ice jackets and the book the movement and would do whatever to keep this on the air, and although the ratings have picked up the last two weeks theyre awful. The show gets what pretty much a rerun of south park would get. I dont get society anymore. Its Always Sunny doesnt get nominations either and the ratings are just fair and that even has a pretty big name in Devito killing it. Is something wrong with me? Like I could get a show not being popular with the masses but getting rave reviews...like Arrested Development, but I guarantee the 4 new Mr. Show episodes will probably get no attention either. I have a feeling soon i will live in a world where all comedy is just like Big Bang Theory or women like Amy Shumer saying vagina repeatedly

What are the ratings, exactly? It is a pretty niche show on CC, I wouldn't expect anything too big and hopefully CC isn't as Nathan is in its third season, thankfully and unbelievably.

As for awards, so what? Sunny has never won one of the major awards (they did a brilliant episode about it). Curb Your Enthusiasm, same deal.

while the article sounds positive because its an increase...this show is getting about as good ratings as King of the Hill re-runs.

reply

Yeah I checked them out..The Movement was up but the first two episodes were two of the lowest in series history. Oh well, even if this show ends after S3 that's two more seasons than I expected

reply

Amazing show I agree, but how can you say theres no meanness or laughing at people for their differences? ? Thats the whole show pretty much...

reply

I dont think there is any meanness to the show at all. Nathan seems to try to understand the person and not make fun of them for their obvious crazy beliefs. When has he insulted anyone other than the jerk toy maker? He lets people tell their stories. There is tons of awkwardness, but there is nothing mean about it. He's not out to show how someone different is stupid.
t
Maybe I am watching a different show, but to me the humor isnt from the business men its from Nathan giving them these crazy, but somewhat brilliant ideas and their reactions to them and actually I think the show really is a positive study of human nature and how people want to believe him and they want to be nice. Where has he ever been mean or laughed at someone for their differences. Heck even to Wolfe he calmly tells him that nude pictures with women is porn.

Ive never seen anything in this show that I would say was him trying to show someone as stupid or trying to be mean. I mean you could argue that the security guard reality show could be that way maybe, but it didnt come off to me as that and unlike Sacha Baron Cohen or Tom Green I think the difference is Nathan seems to generally love people. THose two seemed more out to show the worlds stupidity and try to upset people as much as possible. Nathan seems out to show differences but make himself the butt of the joke.

Obviously ratings are biased. They get these numbers from "somewhere". They don't accurately reflect everyone's viewpoint.

reply

This is basically a Tom Green show. He got terrible ratings but everyone still loved him to the point to where he had to quit because he became so famous.

reply

Just hope it stays on the air for as long as possible. I seriously respect all the effort it would take to pull a show like this off. Seriously, think about it.

I suspect most people don't even know the show exists. I didn't until today when I happened to see someone link a TV interview with the guy from The Movement and I began investigating to see if it was real. I'm now almost finished watching season 1 and I love it.

reply

Holy *beep*! I didn't know you could buy Summit Ice clothing and The Movement Book.

Nathan is a true visionary. I can't remember the last time I laughed this hard at something. A lot of people don't seem to get it, though. I showed it to some friends that didn't find it funny at all.

Well the best shows end up getting cancelled like Rome, Sleeper Cell, Carnivale, Firefly, etc. People seem to favor $hit that keeps them anaesthetized.

This is show is so hilarious. I have shown it to be people too who don't think it's that funny and I realized the people who don't think it's funny couldn't handle jokes being played on them. They take themselves too seriously so they see these jokes being played and feel that a person being tricked is the worst thing that can happen to the ego. The ego is our sense of separation that makes us feel unique. You need a healthy ego but too much feels of separation and you are highly fragile, your sense of belonging is delicate. If your ego is very fragile it can't handle being tricked. Jokes are a good litmus test of mental health.

I agree completely about people. This is a good litmus test to tell if I will get along with someone. If they dont find this funny theres a good chance I wont get along with them. As for the show it seems like people arent willing to branch out until there is a watershed moment. Its like Pawn Stars; Pawn Stars got big which opened the way for all the copy cats, from storage wars, to hard core pawn, american pickers etc... This is just too different from everything on television.
