Kelly’s song picks

I love the energy Kelly Clarkson brings to the show. She nurtures her charges and her comments to the other contestants are kind and encouraging. Unfortunately, IMO her song selection for Jordan and Jason are TERRIBLE. I don’t think it’s a coincidence her two ended up on the bottom last night.

Any thoughts?

Agreed. I think she's picking her own personal favorites & maybe not thinking about what people may truly be familiar with. That song from the Moulin Rouge (sp?) movie was definitely a strange choice.

I'm starting to realize that Jen's the only one who really gets it and it would have been fascinating to see what she could have done with the other contestants.

I hope you like feminist rants because that's kind of my thing.

I agree totally. The show would be a lot more interesting if it was just Jen (who's part of duo and knows how to sing duets) with eight partners, who not only sing with her, but also sing duets with each other. And, of course, let the viewers decide who stays and who goes.

Yeah. It would be hard rock but I feel like she could do much more than what any of the other judges have combined. And you're right. She is the only who does duets for a living. So that's why she does it with such ease.

Well, if it was just one Superstar, then I'd have the producers choose the duets (with perhaps a theme - a different type of music each week - give Superstar a chance to stretch herself, too - and preferably songs that were actually written as duets - the only one of Jennifer's numbers that I haven't liked was "Stay". It's absolutely my favorite Sugarland song (and Sugarland is country, not hard rock), but it didn't make sense as a duet at all.

Although I'm sure if this show had been set up that way, it would've been Kelly or Robin as the Superstar, not Jennifer, since they're be the big names who would draw in an audience. I mean, look at the main poster - "Who wants to sing with Robin Thicke?" And, who knows? If that was the case and the producers chose the songs, it may have worked out...

I think they have themes each week. But themes aren't enough. You have choose the right songs within those themes. And I think Jen usually gets it. When John Legend chose Since U Been Gone for Melanea he signed her death certificate. But Robin chooses the wrong song like every week. Kelly is beyond her timid contenders. She tries though. But Jen hits on the head.

I agree, and I think Robin and John are also guilty of choosing personal favorites without thinking about whether the song would fit the contestant. Robin is the worst at this.

Last week, I think it was Jason that chose the song they performed (Mercy) and you could see the big difference in his performance!

I think that Kelly show less favoritism with her duet partners and tries to choose songs that suits the style of the singing partner while getting them out of their comfort zone.

yeah I am surprised with the songs choices with Kelly since she during Idol she picked songs week after week that were great. can't say that's the case anymore. whenever she chooses songs to cover on tour they aren't exactly my favorites.
