Why do they call them anomalies?

Or more specifically why do they call them anomalies in this version which just happens to be what they called them in the original version?

I've only seen the pilot of this so far and can't really remember if there was a good reason from way back when the original started maybe there is an actual reason why both groups came to call them the same thing Or is it just coincidence?

Because "Wibbley-wobbley-timey-wimey" was taken.

That's an interesting question. Since both groups made the discovery independently it is a little coincidental that they both call them anomalies. It would have been cool if they called them something else in this show, similar to how different groups of survivors call zombies different things in The Walking Dead. It could have helped differentiate this show from the original a bit more but it may have received a controversial reaction from fans. I'm guessing they just didn't want to take the risk.

In the Walking Dead universe there was never any zombie fiction so the term zombie would remain an obscure term that few would know.

An anomaly is something that's out of place or that doesn't belong. Calling them anomalies is technically accurate.

I suppose they could have called them portals, or time fissures, but they went with the technical term. Since there's no official term for a hole in time, it's an anomaly.

Of course the real answer is because this show is set in the same universe as the original and they wanted to tie the two shows together.

There is a reason why they call them anomalies but it's given in a later episode.

Pretty Big Spoilers
The First time Evan encounters an Anomaly he is saved by Mac from a previous timeline. This Mac is a member of ARC (and therefore from the UK continuity) and when talking to Evan he calls the Portal an Anomaly. Hence Evan starts calls them Anomalies
