Explain [spoiler]

I watched it without subtitles, and I don't know if I got it right. Could somebody explain the plot to me.

shareI didn't quite understand the subplot with the Raven character and all. Who was Raven and why did he mean anything at all to Cory Monteith's and David Morse's characters? I just don't get it.
And why did Simon Weeks say "I'm sorry" to McCanick at the end of the movie? Sorry for what? (For taunting him when McCanick came out to him? That's not something to apologize for after what McCanick did to him.) It was McCanick who ruined Weeks' life not the other way around. And why did Weeks not tell anyone about the circumstances around his arrest?
Because "it's not your fault" what? Why wasn't it McCanick's fault? Are you kidding me!
I did enjoy the movie, especially the intense last 10-15 minutes - I just didn't understand the background story. The movie would've been even better in my eyes had anything at all about their backgrounds been explained.
Anyone have any theories about the back story?
I am totally lost on what that movie was about. This is now two movies in a row that I am just like what?
Update: (my understanding and thoughts) After reading some reviews after writing this initial post I get what the movie was about but I still wouldn't want to watch that again. As I understand it anyway the guy was I guess worried it would come out he was a cop and was gay. He ends up going crazy trying to find one guy to kill so it never gets out that he is gay and ends up hurting way more people. With the way this was presented in the movie I sure as heck wasn't expecting this nor was I looking for it. It was a mess. Maybe looking at the movie through non gay eyes didn't help me pick up on this. I really don't know.Eh maybe I am just not smart enough to have picked up on the plot but I know for sure there are others out there who are in the same boat as me with this one.

It would have been a little better, if they would have clarified the incident 7 years ago just a little more.....
