Was MacCanick really gay? I

s that why he put Simon into prison? Is that why he wanted to kill him? Because he was mad at his gayness and wanted revenge?

It is a crazy plot and not one well presented on screen. Too many scenes were too long and the early parts of the movie sure as heck didn't have me thinking this would lead to a gay kissing scene where McCanick asks this guy to move take his apartment/home for no apparent reason other than he had a thing for this guy and .... eh just not the movie for me..

My take was that he wanted to kill Simon because Simon knew about him being gay and he was afraid Simon would eventually say something. Not only but he was now ashamed and if Simon died then McCanick's secret and his shame would die with him since even if Simon never told another living soul, HE would still know this humiliating secret McCanick was carrying around.

He put Simon in prison because not only was he ashamed that his advances had been rebuffed but embarrassed that he'd been taunted and wanted to punish Simon for it. That plus the fact that he had been in love with Simon apparently some time IMO.

Sometimes, one can think about trivial matters, for far too long. I'll just go with your take on the film and not watch it. Thanks.
