Takashi Miike's Battle Royale

Hard to not compare this movie to the most famous horror movies of the last decade Battle Royale. Even thou Hunger Games's *beep* is all around business nowdays, it's so nice to see a trully amazing director take the bull by the horn and make it a very enjoyable remake !

As usual we found not only elements of fun and action in the film, but trully amazing directing and cinematography throughout. Takashi Miike 's touch of horror is so creepy i stil laugh about it when i rethink of it (won't spoil it).

I really recommnd it, although it might look a bit "too long" and could certainly have been cut to less than 2 hours. Hope the sequel will be as good !

Not nearly as good as BR. Where Royale had biting social commentary this offers nothing. This isn't even in the same league as Confessions, which it has more in common with than BR.

The absolutely over the top and extreme final act of the movie leads me to believe that there is some commentary going on under the cover, I just can't grasp what it's supposed to be.

THe only thing I noticed how the teacher is fond of American quotes and seems to have gained inspiration from school shooting in US. Like the second part of the film takes place in haunted house (US Halloween theme), some classrooms had a lunar lending with plenty US flags. But overall, I saw this as nothing but brutal gore flick.

I think is a commentary on the culture of violence, regardless of country...
.
like: "you want violence? You'll get violence..."
