Paul's Demise

What a huge let down...suicide really??? After building his story for 3 seasons he never got his comeuppance. Such a disappointment, I had no problem with them slowing the storytelling down, focusing on the amnesia, uncovering another crime, getting him to admit to it...but it ends with his suicide...womp womp.

As i watched the final episode, I thought he was going to successfully escape and find his way to where Stella was residing while in Belfast. I thought he would try to kill her, but that she would probably kill him by shooting him, after a violent struggle.

If he wanted to kill her, he would have done it in her hotel room last season or the interview room.

Would have been a way more satisfying wash to end the season.

You might want to put a spoiler in your subject heading for those who haven't watched the whole series.

And all the pieces matter (The Wire)

Agree S3 was going well until they decided to end it on a whimper. Im sure they thought it went out with a bang but I was very disappointed in the way they chose to end paul.

Paul couldn't have gotten away for another season. It would have been ridiculous. But offing himself? that was so out of character that it seems they replaced the writers for the last episode

reply

I totally agree! Lazy writing!!! It would've been too much work to think of a way out of that. "let's just have him hang himself and be done with it. People liked it so far, that's not important. It's just the last episode". And they got the script approved. Go figure... hahaha

Remember Stella telling Paul near the end that rather than caring for him as a person, she only wanted to keep him alive so that she could see him locked away for the rest of his life? His suicide was the ultimate f-you to her. In his warped mind, he did evade justice. I don't know that that was the character's prime motivation in killing himself, but in the end his actions did have that consequence.
