Why Was Mystery Incoporeal So Anime Inspired?

I get the Scooby Doo theme and yeah, honestly if not for this episode I wouldn't have realized how much Gwen has become a modern version of Velma with the hair and glasses.

But it seemed like there were a ton of typical Anime gags that never used to be on this show. Just found it interesting is all.

It was a nice touch the way "Dante" was wearing a Wesley Crusher shirt before he turned into Darkstar.

Didn't pick up on that homage. I think Darkstar had a good redesign. His suit looked good. The anime inspiration worked for this episode since it was more comedic and had the Scooby-Doo thing going on, but every episode doesn't need it. Seems to be going that way, though. I don't think I find it a huge deal yet. Maybe later.

I guess there were some anime gags and influences, but it's more like classic cartoons than Anime that inspired the show. The studio seems to have a lot of inspiration for retro and nostalgia, which is why they were able to make Mystery Inc. have that more 60's/70's vibe to its appearance. In Omniverse, there were aspects of Hannah-Barberra, Disney, Harvey toons, and even the cartoons of Thundercats, Dennis the Menace, and GoBots were all over the show's aliens( even the fish alien Plumber was clearly inspired by Don Knots' Mr. Limpet character).
