My God does this show suck: a sure franchise-killer

My review:

3/10

If, as a fan of Ben-10, you were hoping for a solid advance in the Ben 10/Alien/Ultimate franchise...you're not getting it. This is more of a reboot than a continuation; and aimed squarely at brain-dead elementary schoolkids (and intending to keep them that way).

To start with, the animation and drawing-style are noticeably inferior to previous iterations of the series. Ben has gigantic green-pupil eyes and a cartoonishly large head now -- in fact all the characters look ridiculous. While thankfully retaining the same voice-cast, the show has obviously been done on the cheap; and intelligently-written dialogue is a thing of the past.

Gwen and Kevin are now gone....and this a major mistake. Gwen locked in a girl audience to the series; and her character provided a much-needed reality-oriented anchor to Ben's perpetual temptation toward zany idiocy.

Last but not least: the theme music is atrocious (whereas the theme of the original show is perhaps one of the most fondly-remembered of any animated series); simply hearing a few seconds of it is enough to have you scrambling for the remote.

Prediction (made halfway through the first season): Omniverse will kill the franchise, and it'll be canceled before its full run.

If, as a fan of Ben 10, you were hoping to find people on these IMDb boards who don't completely bash Omniverse at every chance...you're not getting it. The OP is more of a rude jerk than an open-minded person willing to accept even the slightest insinuation that Omniverse does not suck; his posts are aimed at offending people who love Omniverse (and intending to keep them feeling that way).

To start, the amination and drawing style are noticeably different and offer a new twist to the franchise's style. Ben visually resembles his sometimes childish temperment more now with his less mature look -- in fact all the characters look more their personality, in a way. While thankfully retaining the same voicecast (why wouldn't they?) the show has been done in a new way; and still has intelligent scripting.

Gwen and Kevin are now gone (though they make an occasional reappearance) and have been replaced by Rook Blonko, a much loved newcomer, who manages to attract people from the female demographic.

Last but not least: the theme music is just as cute, catchy, and fun as the original (which, contrary to the OP's believes, probably isn't the most fondly remembered theme music of any animated series, calling it such is a bit of a hyperbole).

Prediction (made halfway through the second season): omniverse will further the franchise, and will last e few years before Man of Action comes out with a new Ben 10 series.

Yes, I did just mock your original posting. Why? I found it offensive and rude. I'm not a brain-dead elementary kid, I'm a sophmore in high school in honors and college-level classes.

Take that up with the OP, not me. I was merely mocking his offensive post in my own.

So, with a "10/10" rating you are asserting your sincere belief that this tripe ranks with the greatest animated series of all time? It's rubbing shoulders with Cowboy Bebop, Future Boy Conan, and Justice League Unlimited?

Sorry, but I have no idea what any of those shows are.

This does not surprise me.

GO click the link to the "official" interview. It's just a Rick Roll. The news is a scam.

i completely agree with this overview of the show. i love ben 10! i was a fan when it first came out as one of the cartoon network originals. i stopped watching after a while mainly for stupid teen reasons but i found my way back with the new series alien force and ultimate alien. this show was awesome and i was so happy to find out they were continuing until i saw this load of crap. you are completely right about the animation, it's awful. it looks like it was drawn but an 8 year old. why is it so blocky?! since when is the omnitrix an octagon, i mean really? i barely got through one episode before yelling at my computer. why did they get rid of gwen and kevin!! i loved them! they brought such an interesting clash of styles to the show. the new theme song is awful as well. the original theme was good, catchy and the newer one for AF AND UA were good too but this one is such sugary superficial crap. i almost feel that they have ruined my opinion of the show by letting me sit through one episode, its so different. unless the producers can somehow find their way back to a plot and animation style similar to the one we know and love, i don't see this show lasting, and i based on the reviews I've read so far, a bunch of severely pissed off fans.

Yup.

And a called-shot: it was axed after one season.

There are no longer any scheduled showings of any version of Ben 10 on the CN. Comcast On Demand has some, though.

reply

Really? They show two episodes back to back Monday to Friday on CN here.I AM tired of the repeats, but I still watch it.Occasionally I will see an episode I don't remember.

I DO agree that some of the animation on this show is awful.Gwen and Jimmy Jones as well as Harang look stupid.

I can't think of any more.

What I don't like is the fact Ben doesn't really follow the rules of the Plumbers. He works WITH them but he is unaware of ANY of their rules or regulations.

Occasionally he makes intelligent decisions but not many. And he cares more about watching Sumo Slammers movies than spending time with his girlfriend?

His priorities are WAY off.

But eventually he and Kai get married and have a son.So it all works out in the end.

And what about Maltruant's time loop?Is Ben going to have to keep stopping him over and over?

I should have known those alien maggots booby trapped this sub
