Ads and reviews keep comparing this to 'The Prince and the Pauper'

It appears to be a lot closer to "The Prisoner of Zenda" in many respects...

that's good to know.

His name...was Julio Iglesias!

Somewhere in between the two, I'd say. From Zenda, you have Rassendyll made to be king for help the real king's political situation, and him falling in love with Princess Flavia - these correspond to Ha-sun press-ganged into pretending to become Gwanghae to maintain political stability and him falling for the Queen - or at least having genuine compassion for her. From the Prince and the Pauper you have Tom Canty of lowly birth masquerading as the prince, just as Ha-sun was a man of lowly birth masquerading as the king; people thinking Tom the real king but gone mad just as Ha-sun is thought to be the real king but everyone noticing his strangely different behaviour - plus you have the real prince declaring himself to be the genuine article but no-one believing him, just as you have the real King Gwanghae at the end declaring himself to be the genuine article but many of the court ministers convinced he's an imposter.

Uh, isn't it a remake of Kagemusha?

reply

No, it isn't. Unless you wanna claim every movie that features a royal double is a remake of Kagemusha, like The Prisoner of Zenda, The Prince and the Pauper, and Dave. Oh wait, two of those came before Kagemusha LOL.

reply

I thought it was a lot like the film Dave with Kevin Klein. Up until the end.
