Stunning Documentary

If you're a Clash fan, you must not miss this... much better than any other doc I've seen on The Clash. The Joe Strummer doc from several years ago was also very good.

Are you kidding? This is an awful doc on the Clash. Real Clash fans will hate it. It's all about the demise and none of the rise of the group. London Calling is barely mentioned. Right there it gets an F.

The Joe Strummer doc is, however, quite good.

Although I wouldnt give it an F (more like a D) I agree, its not that good. It is mainly about their downfall but I did enjoy the interviews with Pearl Harbour, Mick Jones and the other band memebers that were involved after Mick was tossed out. This does not paint the overall picture of The Clash and their music. There are other docs out there that are much better and have been mentioned before. Almost felt sorry for the one guitarist(who came after Mick) who was drinking and became emotional when talking about the song "This is England"...he seems like a man who is having some issues and still hasnt resolved his feelings about being in the post Mick Clash (which isnt/wasnt really The Clash if you are a Clash fan).

This was intended to be a documentary focusing on the "Clash II" period and the break up of the band. The title is misleading though, I guess if you weren't following the production and were expecting something else it would be disappointing. But that's why Westway to the World exists.

There are more complete documentaries out there about the rise of The Clash (Westway to the World has been mentioned) but I found this to be a revealing story of the breakdown of a band that I still consider to this day to be the best I've ever seen or heard. Well worth watching if you're a fan - or not.

If you are a Clash fan this doc is worth checking out BUT the title is definitely misleading. Should be called The Fall Of The Clash or How The Clash Broke Up or something like that. The 'rise' part takes up about the first ten minutes of the doc. The rest deals with the 'fall'. That being said, there are some interesting things in this doc - particularly Mick Jones' comments,Terry Chimes' comments, and security guy Ray Jordan. It's worth checking out but Westway To The World is def better.

It's more than misleading to call this film "The Rise and Fall of the Clash," it's an outright lie that was used for commercial purposes. And the fall wasn't that compelling either. There are much better stories about bands flaming out. The Clash more like died on the operating table.
