Surprisingly Good

I was really expecting a crapfest, but it turned out to be a decent mystery. I enjoy a movie with a good soundtrack.

"Father, for all the deceits I may have hoisted upon you, yours to me remain the gravest, but I will forgive you because the Bible tells me to do so, and now you shall do the same for me. Whenever you stand praying, forgive. If you have anything against anyone, forgive, because your father who sits in Heaven forgives your transgressions, and if you cannot forgive, neither will the Almighty. If you are truly sworn to the Bible, now is the time to start acting like it."

I was expecting a crapfest and that's pretty much what I got. A routine slasher about a mystery killer picking off a cast of cardboard teens, plus a puffed up Colm Meaney channeling Jimmy Swaggart.

Nice scenery, though.

Spoilers:

Pity the speaker's pluck and nascent acuity are, as is so disturbingly prevalent in these Satanically tinged yarns of terror, once again rewarded with vilification, this time around our heroine being reduced to the devil's handmaiden. Significant downgrade from bride, daughter, or even baby mama; Susan Faludi take note.

Otherwise, Kitty, I share your enthusiasm for TDH with perfervid vigor. That a production boasting such astute craftmanship and so stellar a cast(many of them unknowns as of this writing)firing on all cylinders has essentially been heaved overboard without forethought into the erratic and myriad swells of DVD and late night cable to find a cult audience when the hackneyed beyond even cliche Devil's Due was give a WIDE RELEASE is nothing short of despicable.

I agree! It felt like a more serious supernatural version of Scream in an Amish setting. I know that sounds weird, but it's really fast paced and keeps you guessing. People are gonna say..."I knew who the killer was..blah, blah." Well like all good mysteries I guessed the killer at one point, but kept changing my mind as some suspects started being off'd. I was thrown off so many times and began blaming a different character as more motives are revealed. That's a good mystery, not some really ambigious big reveal that makes little to no sense just to make sure no one guesses it. Fun Movie, good mystery!
