difficult to sympathize with her...

The ex shows up out of the blue 5 months after leaving his girlfriend for a job in LA and the first thing he does is present her with an engagement ring and asks her to marry him? This self absorbed guy really had some.....! Why the hell she didn't immediately blow him off is amazing. I also found it strange that she didn't tell the ex to take a hike when he showed up at the wholesale flower store, especially since he arrived before Dan. She wasn't very considerate for Dan's feelings or the position she was putting him in. Then when the ex does decide to leave she stops him and makes a date with him. Wow!!!

To her credit, at least she was honest with Dan but it sounded like she wanted her cake and to eat it too. I didn't blame him a bit for taking himself out of the picture. I would have done the same. Why put yourself in a position to have your heart broken over a woman who doesn't know what she wants or doesn't want? Also Dan's female coworker's advice, from a woman's perspective, was pretty much worthless. Obviously she was going to side with her.

What if the roles were reversed and it was the guy who told the woman that an old girlfriend he had invested a lot of time with had returned and he wanted to date them both to see how he felt. I doubt very much she would go for it. Then if she were to seek advice from a female friend, I'm sure she would be told to dump the pig.
