Rachel Boston's acting...

Is it just me or has her acting become pretty bad?! First season she made the charater likable and even though Ingrid did some stupid stuff you could believe it and look past or understand it. Now she says some lines and I can't help but cringe! When she told Joanna "I saw everything" it was so awkward sounding. It is sometimes uncomfortable to watch because its just so bad. Am I all alone in this feeling?

reply

I think Jpanna takes the cake with terrible acting. Ingrid doesn't bother me so much.

reply

I think she is agreeable to watch.

How is Julia Ormond (Joanna) a terrible actress?

I'm with OP. I could barely stand Boston in s1 but in s2 she's nigh on unbearable. every line is said the same, all breathy and high, with eyebrows raised and eyes wide. SO sick of hearing 'oooooh Freya' every single time. for me she's the worst, her character is boring - she acts like she knows everyting and she's all powerful when she's known for barely a year that she is a witch. I cringe with her scenes. Ormond is phoning it in, fair enough but Boston has just gotten ridiculous

Actually, what you described there was really poor and lazy writing, which is why, while the first season was pretty enjoyable, the second season was a chore to struggle through.

Rachel Boston has always been the show's weakest link in terms of acting. You know you're a bad actor when a male model with no experience delivers his lines better than you.

reply

Info hope Ingrid gets a better storyline.

I completely disagree. If you've read the book, she's completely on point. Ingrid is very smart and poised, just like Rachel portrays in the show.

I find Ingrid's motivation behind her actions and the way Rachel portrays them as completely on key.

Rachel's acting is completely different to her other roles. In this role, she's so poised and (for lack of a better word...) 'uptight'. Almost all of the other movies and TV shows she's been in, she's been hilarious and outgoing.

It's the character, not the actor.

reply

It's not about the character. It's about the acting. The endless "eyes wide" is annoying. There are other ways to show a person being in shock or surprised than widening the eyes.

reply

But that's how she's written...

Personally, I loved Rachel Boston as an actor long before Witches Of East End. WOEE is completely different to what she's usually like- she's portraying the character in the book and the one that's written for her. Personally, I think that makes her a good actress. If you compare some of her roles, Ingrid is very different from the other roles she has done.

Honestly, I believe that she's adapting the character and making it fit for her. It's not the acting, it's the character.

Is her character written to always widen her eyes when she's surprised or scared? Somehow I doubt that.

It's not just the wide eyes bit. She has no range of emotion. There are varying degrees of acting surprised or shocked, but with Rachel Boston no matter what little tidbit Ingrid uncovers, you get a full blown, "WHAT?! OH MY GOD!!" response from her. Very sophomoric and reminds me of the kids who didn't make the cut into the HS drama program.

reply

I agree with you. I just kept liking her less and now she is cringeworthy

reply

completely disagree, JDT makes me shudder everytime she delivers a line, shes absolutely horrible

reply

Wow...I am surprised. She's one of my favorites on the show. Hmm...

reply

She is my absolute favorite! I kind of get what they're saying, but I love the character and Rachel too much to let this post phase me.

Strangely so, every social media network has a different favorite when it comes to WOEE- Twitter has a HUGE Wendy following, Instagram is mainly Freya, Facebook mainly backs both Joanna and Wendy, whilst most of the creative sites (any fan-written site) is behind Ingrid- it really depends on who you talk to.

Personally, I love Ingrid- both the character and the actress. Rachel Boston is wonderful!

reply

I like Wendy...though she can be a real idiot sometimes lol.

Ingrid, Wendy, Dash (even if he is evil lol), and Frederick are all pretty cool. I don't mind Joanna, but I am not a big fan of her either. Freya's the only one who really bugs me, and Killian--Their love story starts to grate my nerves hehe.

Anyway, I think Ingrid is the most complex--She's smarter than the others, and thinks a little more outside the box. I find her back story so far the most interesting too.

I've been binge watching on Netflix and was not surprised to see that someone posted about this. I am hardly a stickler for much of anything that goes on with performers or shows/movies, but...

I really dislike the "wide-eyed deer in the headlight" look she gives. I think it's supposed to be an expression of awe or confusion or contempt. I don't know really as it seems to be her only "expression."

My only problem with Rachel is that she is a lot prettier than the way she is portrayed on the show. I think they could have given her less of a plain jane look.
