Enjoyable movie but almost all atheists know the points already

I watched this movie after all my family and friends hyped it.
I must say I think this movie is fairly entertaining and has a lot of valid points it raises. Points that I have raised repeatedly with my family and friends over the years.

Note that no one can be 100% atheist since we don't know everything about the universe just yet and so cannot 100% say god is not real. Conversely no one can be 100% religious either and say god IS real.

As an atheist, I found the part where god is shown to be real as Akshay Kumar was a bit absurd and took me out of the movie. I understand showing god as a question would not fly well in religious India but that is where Hollywood is superior. The director should have the courage to show Akshay doing things but in a way where it could be deemed that he wasn't god and it was coincidental. And the interpretation is left up to the viewer.
Personally, I would enjoy the movie more had they also not shown the bs at the end with Kanjibhai saying "yes, you are real. I now believe" bs.

Paresh Rawal is terrific for this role and Akshay also fit the "natkhat" Krishna role well. The other chars were as expected cardboard cutout one dimensional. Mithun was shown as a gay priest?? I don't know whether this symbolizes progress or they are mocking the priests or what this was supposed to convey.

This movie has a couple of songs but they're enjoyable and actually fit into this movie well unlike the nonsensical tree dances with outsourced backup dancers.

Personally, I cannot understand how a logical person can think something imaginary is real and that a myth created thousands of years ago by primitive people. Still, to each their own belief.
However, that should be at home and left there. India is caught in the ultra religious as well which permeates into society and pollutes it.
The message of the movie is that - give up nonsensical things about the religion. You don't even need religion. Just help each other and belief in god can be had by anyone - even an atheist can believe in god without needing religion. (although that is oxymoron in itself and to me a bit stupid).

It is time India gives up religion and god nonsense and moves into the next phase of human societal evolution and turns to the challenges of the Universe.

My final movie rating : 8.5/10

Mithun was supposed to be imitating shri shri Ravishankar

Why does Ravishankar have 2 Shri's ?

He sounds like a douche before I even read any more about him

reply

I don't know, he isn't gay but the way he speaks is what Mithun's character was based on and he pulled of with superb acting.

Don't get me wrong. It's a rather interesting point but it would have made the movie completely different.

My take on the movie is that the director never wanted to address the point atheism vs various world religions. He makes it pretty clear that god, at least in the movie, exists.

The real issue is between real spirituality vs supersition. Admittedly to many, these two may infact represent the same thing.

That's irrelevant to the issue at hand.

My interpretation, albeit much simpler, is to not indulges in excesses, and most importantly, not lose sight of your common sense.

It's not an oxymoron if you separate religion or organised religion with one's personal belief in god, which is the point the movie is trying to make. The 'villains' of the movie all hold important positions in their religions/cult and thus are their representatives, or ambassadors.

It is time India gives up religion and god nonsense and moves into the next phase of human societal evolution and turns to the challenges of the Universe.

Not my country and I don't enough about Indian politcs to have an opinion on the matter. So I'll stick with Indian movies ;)

I replied to another thred on this board about Indian population being more followers than leaders, sorry guys, might sound bad but its the truth!

India will never give up religion because of the business it generates for everyone. Also because the whole political structure is based on religion and for that very reason they will never let go of religion.

As far as your comment about the movie depicting something done by "God" in more abstract way and be left for the audience to interpret, that would also not work because of the fact that Indian audience aren't tuned on those wavelegth to interpret hidden, abstract and subtle meanings on screen. Unless the act is being rubbed in their face by a couple of hundred dancers and things getting blown up using cheesy lines and bad CGI. Anything less than that just would not do.

And as far as the last part where Paresh screams that he believed in god...that part my friend saved the whole movie. If that bit was done the other way proving god doesn't exist then I bet this movie would be the focus of "Religious Riots Part-2".

As bad as it sounds it is true and before anyone jump on me for bashing religion, I don't beleive much in it anymore as it only serves for selfish needs.
