They learned the same lesson as the makers of Independence Day: Resurgence

You can't make a Will Smith movie without Will Smith.

I wonder had they had Will Smith as the 'older agent' and recruited a young side kick, would it have worked?

reply

I think it would have worked well. If the young side kick is Tessa Thompson, you also have a romance storyline available.

reply

A romance storyline with someone old enough to be her father. lol.

reply

He is 50, she is 35. It's not that unusual.

reply

It'd be unusual for it to be in a Will Smith movie.

ITS NOT UNUSUAL TO BE LOVED BY ANYONE....

reply

It's not unusual to see me cry... I wanna die.

This felt nothing like a Men in Black movie at all. Surprised to say it, but I think Will Smith made the movies what they were.

reply

I don't think Independence Day: Resurgence had to have Will Smith to succeed.

It did however need a good script, which it most definitely did not have. Practical effects could have also helped, since all the CGI made it feel like a video game cut scene.

Bingo

Except at least Resurgence was a fun action movie, this one was just so dull it wasnt even unintentionally funny.
