As far as staying with him. She did leave him and he begged her to come back. She gave him another chance. It's his fault he was not ready for marriage and to be a father with all the responsibilities and took it out on her after he tried to be committed to the marriage and responsible but was not ready and stressed. If the movie holds any realism he already told her "you are never leaving me" if he did abuse her, he'd be the typical abuser to track her down regardless of where she hid and take the kids, threaten her life and stalk her and kill her if she didn't come back to him, maybe she knew there was no leaving him, he'd find her like all abusive husbands do, they never let the wife go, the wife either ends up dead or injured and the guy jailed eventually after the wife is killed so this could have easily been a me or you so it will be you. To say she is lying is no proof, how many husbands DO NOT let their wife go, they track them down and beat them, threaten them, stalk them and eventually kill them if they try and run especially if she has his kids
As far as not looking like Sara Paxton, besides a cute face and not being over weight but short and flat chested, she is decent but not that great and I don't know what the real Susan looks like .....

I of course have an opinion about whether or not it was justified rage and preemptive fear driving her but that fact is NO ONE KNOWS what REALLY happened and where her thoughts and mind were when it happened. The very BEST any of us can do is assert an educated opinion on the matter. Its rather sad actually the closed minded CERTAINTY with which some of these comments were made considering none of them were there, nor have they seen every shred of evidence produced, especially since this movie is BASED on real events but does not claim to be spot on faithful to reality.

The film showed that she tried to leave him but she was under duress. He has a psychological hold on her. Also, I'm not sure why you find it necessary to assert your opinion about her looks.

Susan Paxton is average. People are made up for movies and stuff, she is not that great, if she was a mom and just your neighbor who did some work as a receptionist, you would not even think anything about her looks. There are much better looking girls in this world who don't get attention because they're not movie stars. If they became movie stars tomorrow suddenly they would be so hot. LOL
