She over killed her husband while their kids were down the hall. They could have walked in while she was stabbing their dad to death.

You may not understand what accumulative abuse is like. It makes people explode. It's not right but it's important to have empathy for both. They were both victims.

If he really was as abusive IRL as he was portrayed in this movie & in other accounts I've read, I'm surprised she didn't kill the SOB sooner.
