Russia-bashing, Europe-bashing, Stereotypes Galore.

Man, I had to cringe at all the anti-French and anti-Russian jabs. Nice to see Hollywood still has a balanced and open-minded approach to understanding other cultures--all that's missing is Sambo in blackface and a Jew with a big nose.

Also, the Gulag system has been out of existence for decades, but I get it: we have a new Cold War to promote.

On the plus side, I think Tina Fey was sexy as hell as the prison guard!

They were funny because they were true, though.

"They were true"?

No need to show off your ignorance here, mate.

reply

it was a joke. The OP is taking a movie about talking puppets seriously so I fed off it.
Never mind.

reply

Exactly. Apparently the OP isn't bright enough to understand that the joke is the absurdity of the stereotypes.

Oh yeah lol russians are nothing but nice and friendly in real life. Turning your back on truth just to be politically correct makes you more ignorant than anyone here. You think like a child.

reply

Do you seriously believe russians in general are rude? Shut up

reply

Ask the Ukrainians.

reply

The Ukranians were invaded by "the russians in general", now?

reply

Yeah, haven't you heard ? Ukraine was invaded by the entire population of Russia! Russia itself is completely empty now, apart from bears and Richard Snowden.

reply

Ask the Ukrainians.

Depends who you mean by "Ukrainians". High majority of Ukraine's population are native Russian speakers (~85% of the country at the very least, i.e. over 35 millions people, and Russian isn't state language over there, which is ridiculous). So far all referendums that took place there were heavily pro Russian (not surprisingly really). Ukrainian regime blocks people from free expression.

reply

lol russians are nothing but nice and friendly in real life.

lol americans are nothing but nice and friendly in real life. See I can do that too.

reply

They're true enough. Europeans have the least onerous work schedule in the western world, and Siberia sucks.

Get over yourself.

reply

Siberia's Russia, now?

So in your simple, simple mind, "the russians" came all over from "siberia" on top of their army bears and invaded Ukraine. While all the europeans were on vacations, probably.

It is a funny image.

reply

Everybody is pretty much the stereotypical version of themselves in a muppets movie. They even do white americans like tex richman and hobo joe in the first movie.

reply

Europeans bash Americans all the time, but this bothers you? A Muppets movie?

I did wonder why they would want to alienate a large chunk of possible foreign audience.

"They who... give up... liberty to obtain... safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

reply

I thought that after years of kissing the butts of the left-wingers it was nice to infuse some truth. Particularly with the Ty Burrell inspector character. The way that they took jabs at how the government bureaucrats are overpaid and underworked, and how everybody drives around in small cars. Europe has already fallen into a new dark age, and you can thank the left-wingers for hijacking a once prosperous part of the world. It's now up to the Americans to hold onto some shred of civilization.

reply

I had no problem with the French jokes and I'm a pretty big francophile. I don't really see how they could offend anyone. Hey, it's true that French people get a lot of time off work.

The Russian ones hit a little harder but still were obviously over the top.

reply

Wasn't the French part of the movie just a rehash of classic Inspecteur Clouseau/Pink Panther tropes?
