Where does Crewdson Get the funding for his projects?

What type of people or organization would fund such a massively expensive photography project like this?

With photography, I don't feel like there would be enough of a return on the investment. I venture to say that all of the work involved with this project would eclipse the budget of an independent film.

I looked up a copy of the collection on Amazon, and it runs about $40.00 (not bad for a book with such wonderful photographs and printing quality). It doesn't seem like photography books in general are flying off the shelves, and don't see many people without a specific interest in photography or Crewdson's work purchasing a copy of the book.
