Was Schwartz always Jewish???

I am trying to remember if it was Flick or Schwartz in the original movie who talked about getting his old man a rose that squirts...for CHRISTMAS. Was Schwartz's beliefs ever implied in the first movie or any of Shep's writing?

Did the name Schwartz not tip you off?

His name is Schwartz, so yes.

My last name is Schwartz and I'm not Jewish.

I know that doesn't answer the question, but just wanted to state a point.

Not's not really proof. Schwartz is German in origin(from Schwarz, meaning "black"). Really, when it comes to certain surnames, though some Jewish people might be known for them, that doesn't mean they are Jewish names. I mean, there were even a few non-Jewish Nazis with the surname "Rosenbaum"(which many would consider as being a very Jewish sounding name). So, in short, just because someone's surname is, by popular consensus, thought to sound Jewish doesn't mean they are. Now, David, Levi or Cohen, that's another story(those are more literally based on Hebrew names).

I live down the street from the great nephew of the real life Schwartz and they are definitely not Jewish ..so there is that..Flick's real life family still owns a bar on Kennedy avenue here in Hammond.
