Don't do this.

Why are you making a sequel, all these years later? No really, why? The story is told. Is Hollywood seriously out of ideas? There was already one sub-par 'sequel,' which I'm sure no one remembers because it was unmemorable. Please don't ruin our childhood. Ugh.

reply

rofl, I already didn't know there was a sequel. :)

I'm looking forward to this one though. Ralphie is 16 and wants a convertible for Christmas? Hahah.

reply

The other sequel was "My Summer Story" - many of Jean Shepherd's original stories took place in summer. PBS has already filmed "Ollie Hoopnoodle's Haven of Bliss", a mosquito-laden swamp of a lake they visited in summer, miserable hours spent fishing without a catch.. one they need to film is "Ludlow Kissel and the *beep* Bomb that Struck Back" (maybe spelling it won't get it *beeped*? nope- apparently they don't like "Italian", LOL..), the funniest 4th of July story ever, and one that could include a different holiday in the Shepherd films.. that 2nd cast has Mary Steenburgen and Charles Grodin as the parents, two you could depend on for excellent comedy, yet somehow the movie was still flat and lame with few chuckles..

Ironic, because when reading the original stories, I'd be laughing out loud throughout - no films have yet to capture Shepherd's hilarious prose..

PBS also filmed "The Star-Crossed Romance of Josephine Kosnowski", about Ralph's 1st big crush, a beautiful Polish blonde in Chicago - only problem, her brothers all played football for Notre Dame!

My only regret in life is that I'm not someone else - Woody Allen

What manner of bullsh** is this?!?!?! CUT IT OUT, HOLLYWOOD!!!!

There already were 2 "sequels". Ollie Hopnoodles Haven of Bliss & It Runs In The Family, both rather sucky.

reply

There should be laws that prevent Hollywood or any other person/persons from touching classics like this, either it be a sequel or remake. Just sick!

reply

Agreed.....are they really that stupid and egotiscal to think that they will be able to turn out anything NEARLY as magical as A Christmas Story.....sorry...just doesnt happen....it was a fluke of time, casting, material, and chemistry that made the original so brilliant....anything after that is just pale in comparison.

reply

Agreed. This is money-grubbing of the worst kind. I'm surprised there hasn't been a remake or sequel to Gone With the Wind yet.

reply

I personally enjoy It Runs In The Family. I've owned it on DVD for years. I've not watched Ollie Hopnoodles Haven of Bliss but if there are already 2 OFFICIAL sequels then why not a third... or fourth for that matter?

reply

They DID make a sequel to Gone With The Wind!

Apparently, nothing is sacred.

reply

There was a sequel. Called "Scarlett", starring Joanne Whaley Kilmer. There's a big story about it in pre-production about the huge nationwide casting call to find the right woman to play Scarlett. (Just a publicity stunt, IMO).

"I'm surprised there hasn't been a remake or sequel to Gone With the Wind yet. "

There was. In 1994:

There was already a sequel to Gone With The Wind, it's called Scarlett, made in 1994.

reply

there was a sequel.. "Scarlett" starring Joanne Kilmer and Timothy Dalton

reply

It blows my mind that FIVE people felt that they had to respond to this post to say that there was already a sequel to Gone with the Wind. After the first person said it, did we need FOUR more?

reply

Lol, I remember the "sub-par sequel" and it was actually pretty good!

reply

i actually have to disagree with you guys. there is a reason why they make these sequels. it's usually because now that hollywood has new script writers and brand new production teams that are basically very creative when it comes to making sequels really good stories. look what they did with toy story 3. toy story 2 came out about what 12 years ago? look how good the third one came out. even though the second one was like at that time 10 years old. the third one came out 11 years later. got 2 oscars for best animation and best song. and got nominated for best picture and it's due to the story and to the hard work the new team of disney pixar added to make the movie work out. yeah i understand that christmas story is about like 20 something years old. but still i think number 1. i'm sure they got a good team and 2. they do have a great director who has experienced making really good movies. all of brian levents films that i have seen were excellent. be honest i've seen all of his films and loved each and every one of them. and 3. i'm sure they are coming up with a great cast for this film. people tell me all the time that nothing is better then the original film. true. but that doesn't meen the sequel is going to turn out bad.
so i'm sure there will be nothing wrong with making this film. just as long as they have a good team. good cast. good script. and a good director, then i'm sure the movie will turn out just fine.

reply

I don't think it's fair to use an animated film as the example. It LOOKS the exact same and has the same voice actors. We have a very specific reference for what Ralphie and family look like, and Jean Shepherd, the visionary and voice (narrator - Ralph as an adult) is no longer with us. It's just not going to be the same. You can't possibly think this will be anything worth holding up to the original, do you?

reply

I agree that this film will suck, but it's not really valid to say that we have a specific reference for what Ralphie and his family look like, given that there have been six films, each with a different cast. The cast from A Christmas Story was the fourth cast, and they looked nothing like the three prior films. The two films that came after A Christmas Story had casts that looked nothing like that cast. So while I agree that A Christmas Story 2 look terrible, the fact that it's a different cast isn't the real issue.

The only difference 'tween Jesus and the Walking Dead: Jesus asked others to eat HIS flesh.

reply

No kidding a different cast is not the issue. Bad script, bad director, bad flippin' idea is the issue! Disrespecting the works of Jean Shepard is the issue.

reply

Yeah, but the truth behind Toy Story 3 was that Pixar originally had nothing and wanted nothing to do with it. Disney set about developing it themselves -- they actually own the property -- and they were going to animate it. (And it's a known fact that Pixar keeps churning sequels to their movies now more because Disney wants them, for obvious brand traction.) It wasn't until Disney acquired Pixar that they got on-board the film, and then at that point it was to salvage the project as the planned Disney version of the film was along the lines of their DTV sequels in terms of quality of work and story.

And the team that worked on TS3 was the same team that worked on TS2. So Toy Story 3 is actually a unique case that doesn't really speak to this fresh minds, fresh ideas for old properties concept.

Go watch the trailer on YouTube, then tell us if you still feel this way.

reply

Yeah, I feel that way.

Then you are part of the problem, my friend.

"I saw the trailer. It actually didn't look that bad."

Really, you don't think so? Granted they did a nice job recreating the time period, but it's just the idea of the whole thing. It's such a waste.

reply

[deleted]

"For all we know, what they showed in the trailer were probably the only decent parts."

That's usually the case. But honestly, this movie was a mistake from the word go. There were much better ways of handling a genuine Christmas Story sequel if they were willing to put some actual effort into it.

reply

At the BEST CASE SCENARIO....you make it as Ralphie is the old man and has kids of his own and USE THE ORIGINAL ACTORS.. or don't bother

I WILL BE BLACKBALLING THIS MOVIE

reply

My first thought exactly.

reply

I agree. This whole idea is as sacrilegious as trying to do "Citizen Kane II".

reply

I just found out that ACC2 is going to be a Direct-To-Video feature, along the lines of "Single White Female 2" and "Save the Last Dance 2", to which I give a long, drawn-out "Wheeeeeeeeeeew!", or should I say "It figures!"

reply

Dont watch it.

I wont. None of the remakes and sequels we've had recently have impressed me. And I dont wanna ruin my impression of the originals. But I cant stop them from making a new one and I dont want to. I suspect plenty of people will actually want to see this. Just not you or me.
