Nazis BEFORE WWII?

Jean Shepherd (the original author and narrator of the first A Christmas Carol) served in World War II so how can he be having daydreams about Nazis when he was just 16 long before he served in the service?

This movie would have to be taking place sometime around 1937?

Well I was just thinking today how AChristmas Story is set in the 1940's and Jean Shepard was born in 1922 and did serve in WWII??i know it's Fiction just kinda thought it was odd... As far as Nazis, by 1937 the Nazis were in full gear getting ready to take back The Rhineland and def getting ready for war. I'm sure if you followed politics in 1937 you knew there was more to come from Germany....just my thoughts

I'm not sure if you're joking, or serious and for some reason didn't do any research, but the National Socialists (aka the Nazis) were in existence in Germany starting in 1920, and they came into power on a national basis in 1933. There was lots of talk about Nazis in the US news as the '20s progressed, more so after Hitler came to power in '33, and increasing throughout the '30s. Anyone with access to newspapers and radio in the '30s would have been very familiar with the increasingly hostile situation brewing in Germany with Hitler and the Nazis. By 1937, war in Europe looked inevitable.

The original took place sometime after 1939. The Wizard Of Oz was not released until 1939, & the characters were featured in the parade at Higbies. The sequel takes place almost 6 years after the original since Ralphie was 9 in the original and 15 in the sequel.
