In many ways it's a comedic take on 'The Fountainhead'

but if you've never read it you wouldn't know that. But if you have read it this movie is a lot of fun. Larry David is Howard Roark except he doesn't know it because he doesn't know who Howard Roark is. I thought that was pretty funny.

I've read it. I know that. Movie's still not funny.

Doesn't he relate to the Fountainhead when he watches it on TV?

I never read it because I know a man who did some selfish things and blamed it on the book. Which I guess is probably a good reason to read it.

Bump.

Started a thread when it premiered along the same lines. The discussion kind of went round and round, but I do think LD had a pretty thoughtful statement to make through his familiar comic plotting and stock characters.

This is totally my own speculation, allegedly, etc., but I think the Howard Roark homage was largely a smokescreen to goof on Howard Stern - the car's ridiculous name evoking Stern-like humor, Stern's ostentatious McMansion with its own bowling alley in a similar community (The Hamptons), and the blond second wife.
