Oh, I noticed it recently while watching CYE. Larry is a less neurotic version of Woody. It became very clear in the episode I watched last night when he's talking to his shrink.
Funny you mention this. I've tried watching Woody Allen movies for decades, and I've finally just decided I don't care for his work. I know many people do, so it's just a case of not my cup of tea I guess. But I love Larry David, so go figure.
In fact, the only thing I've seen with Larry David that I didn't like was Whatever Works, which was written by Allen.

To me, watching a Woody Allen movie is like hearing fingernails scrape a chalk board - and this coming from someone who's bought marked down DVDs of Woody Allen movies. I keep hoping hope against hope that there will be something worth watching and there never is.
Larry David makes me laugh. After a while, he gets a little stale. But still funny, at least, for a while.
