On what planet would a woman prefer Larry David over Jon Hamm?

I thought it was amusing that Rolly thought he could steal her from Hamm's character.

reply

It's possible that the filmmakers' intention was to amuse.

reply

Yes, Larry David's humor does trade in absurdities.

The Bizaro world.

reply

In THIS world, many, many, many beautiful women would prefer Larry David (net worth $400 million) over Jon Hamm ($15 million).

reply

Isn't the entire premise of this film that the Larry David character is relatively poor and the Jon Hamm character is extremely rich? I think that would be hard to miss....

You may note that the thread is about what the characters do in the world of the movie, not about the actors in the real world. It is amusing that Rolly/Nathan thinks he can steal Will's trophyesque wife. If the story were wildly restructured so that Larry David was playing the billionaire trying to steal poor-guy Jon Hamm's wife, it wouldn't be so amusing.

reply

It worked!

In Larry's world. Or maybe even Woody Allen's world.

But: in Larry's world she didn't.

True. Somehow Woody works it out although I would date Larry before woody, money or no money. Woody is gross.

Lmao. Hamm doesn't look like he spends a lot of time primping. His hair is low maintenance. He doesn't look like he works out much since he has an average body (which is fine!). Don't know about his junk just heard the rumors but those photos of his crotch in various pants are ridiculous. One looks like he has a yoyo in his pocket and the others are just as stupid. Not one good shot among the bunch but who cares. He's a great actor who can play a straight or funny role and doesn't take himself too seriously. He could be hung like a mouse and it wouldn't matter.

Hamm's hosting of SNL was nominated for an Emmy (not sure if it won), and it is hilarious. He played some characters most stars would never agree to do, and he rips on himself to some extent. If it's out there, check it out.

And besides he probably spends hours upon hours primping in the bathroom and hundreds upon hundreds getting his hair right and his nails done and pedicures and hair removal.. Any man who does that is a b o r e

Have you ever seen him outside of 'Mad Men'? I'd say he's about the last guy to do what you just described. He's pretty much a slob, dresses in random flannel shirts, cargo and a cap, and couldn't be further from Don Draper... He also doesn't seem to work out that much, he's pretty flabby.

reply

kayes1 - ouch!!! lol i was being polite but you said it! I don't think he's very flabby - just untoned. I kind of like that though.

Old bald jewish men who are obnoxious and selfish and weasels. thats' the character so why would any attractive woman ever be interested? I compare this character in this movie with woody allen movies. how many times in how many movies has the short scrawny ugly woody allen show himself with beautiful women? almost all of them.In "Manhattan" he even fools around with a friggin teenager. it's the filmmakers ego. in woody movies, it's always the older more sophisticated super intelligent man having sex with his student underling, who is being "taught" art, film, philosophy, etc.

In curb larry was always hanging around attractive women and after his divorce from his wife dating younger super attractive women that you go "wait a minute, why in the hell would she be attracted to larry david?" it's filmmakers prerogative.
