Really has nothing else in his arsenal.

Exactly! If people believe that you need to be a different character in every thing you do, then they obviously are unfamiliar with some of the greatest comedians in the history of film like Charlie Chaplin, Groucho Marx, Bob Hope, Woody Allen, etc. The task of a comedian is to be able to craft a great and unique comic character that can be placed into all sorts of situations.

reply

Yes. Another good example is Stephen Colbert.

Well, I don't think he ever claimed to be an actor. He's a comedian, and he really just does the one character, in different situations. The situation here was fairly different from that on "Curb," or at least as different as you can get and still have the character fit into it.

But, yeah, you're right: it's basically a variant on "Curb Your Enthusiasm" in a different format (100 minutes of a single, defined story ... i.e. a "movie"). I expect the degree of one's enjoyment of the each project would be highly correlated.

Of course, he doesn't even do that well. The whole jewy (not xenophobic, it's really what he does) role he plays always.

reply

Not that there is anything wrong with that.

reply

I don't think the "Curb" character would go so far as to blow up a house though. Unless maybe it was ironclad that he wouldn't get caught.

I agree. This was liking watching a long episode of CYE. Not that there's anything Wrong with THAT!

But I can only handle a few episodes of CYE & watching this movie made me realize why. It's like watching a car wreck or knowing something really stupid bad is gonna happen & you just can't stop it!

The supporting cast was good though. Micheal Keaton? Live Schriver? Danny McBride? Fabtastic!

We're all in strung out shape, but stay frosty, and alert.
