THE REASON WHY SPONGEBOB DOES NOT KNOW OF HUMANS

At first, I had your initial reaction. Then it occurred to me: events in cartoons are not supposed to hold any value unless the show's timeline unless called for. Take a show like Law and Order, or Friends, or Pokemon, (even something bad like Wizards of Waverly Place). ALL these shows are in a set period frame. Now in between there, most episodes serve as filler episodes, unrelated to one another to show another part in the characters' stories.

There are some episodes where there is a recurring character from an older episode that is brought back maybe once or twice more. This is not necessarily a character as major as Plankton. A good example of this recurring character would be Bubble Buddy, where in the more recent episode, the title is "Bubble Buddy Returns" and mentions how he is coming back. Here, they connect the first Bubble Buddy episode to the next, while establishing that time has passed because the creators have the power to let anything happen. In most Spongebob episodes, they rarely reference anything from a PAST episode, since most episodes do not hold any connection to others. They are meant to be different experiences and different scenarios.

Notice they did not mention anything refering to the first movie, about being on the surface. Even in the first movie as spongebob is reaffirming his flaws before rocking out to a parody of Twisted Sister, every term he uses to describe himself was mentioned ONLY prior in the movie, disregarding even insulting name Squidward or Plankton had called him in any other episode. The movie is meant to be an extended-length episode, with guest stars and a longer plot, but still is independent from the actual show.

Now, I can not explain why they are able to live above water (excluding Sandy), but just keep an open mind.

Sounds cheesy, but Power Rangers is a show with a timeline. First the heroes, villains, city, and weapons are introduced. After all the introductions of the basic stuff are out of the way, they will start to link episodes together, bringing back a defeated monster, or recollecting of past blunders. Near the end of the series when everything comes to an end, the main villain will get so angered by all past monsters' failures (and this is something mentioned, they will fight the rangers, and sometime during this episode the rangers will remember parts from earlier memories.
