How many of you grew up with Spongebob?

I was born in 89 and had just turned 10 over a month before the show officially premiered on July 17th, 1999. I clearly remember all of the promos and thinking "this looks so stupid." But soon I became hooked. This was about a year after it first aired and by early 2001 I was a huge fanboy. Me and my younger cousin used to be obsessed. We made up our own "fan club" and tried writing our own episodes/movies. I have a box of old Spongebob stuff from that time like the official magazine, a Wendy's kids club bag, the original Mac & Cheese shapes box, an old ice cream wrapper, an empty Kid Cuisine box, a deflated mylar balloon, a few books, a newspaper article about the House Party episode . . . I had an unopened bobblehead but I sold it on Ebay.

It's sad to think a once wonderful cartoon has sunk this low. No it's not because I'm almost 26, it's because the show is awful now. It should've ended after the first movie. Yeah there's a few gems since then but a majority of them are bad. Hopefully since Stephen Hillenburg is coming back then it'll be close to what it once was. The writing may get better but the animation might not. I hate how they all have those stupid dimples.

And yeah I liked the 1st movie better than this one. This one did have it's moments (like Krabs coughing up the word REFUNDS, lol) but the 1st one is more memorable. However, this one had the scene where Sponge and Plankton first meet Bubbles in that realm somewhere in time and space. It reminded me of when Squidward ended up in the Nowhere realm in SB-129. Also when they travel through time it had those trippy sequences set to Pharrell Williams' song Squeeze Me. Me and my cousin who I mentioned above went and saw it. He loved how they used that song.

I too was a loyal fan of the show in its heyday, and I always enjoy the classic reruns when they're on, but anything made after the first movie I sadly couldn't care less about. I was excited for this though, but after seeing it today, I found it to be a complete misfire. The jokes were lousy, the plot was non-existent, and really it just came off as a bunch of stupid gags tied together ala a bad Family Guy episode. The first movie was amazing and Spongebob will always be near and dear to my heart, but this movie was nothing more than complete f uckery that was terribly executed and painfully un-entertaining. They completely abandoned the three-act-structure for no good reason and it ended up being an absolute mess of a film. I'm sad to say I hated it.

And seriously, how does this have a 75% on Rotten Tomatoes and the original only a 68? That's just insanity.

I wouldn't say I grew up with it. I was born in 1989 but Spongebob was one of those shows that I thought was alright but I would never go out of my way to watch. I honestly don't think I have seen the first movie. It came out after I stopped watching Nick on a regular basis.

I used to watch every episode when I was younger and I remember almost every scene and quote.

Me! The first seasons of this show were genius, hilarious, classic! My three siblings and I quote this show so much and we have enjoyed so many episodes/re-runs together. I wish awesome shows like this didn't become tainted by people who don't maintain the integrity of the original writing. I was pretty skeptical when the first movie came out because generally shows-to-movies disappoint me, but it was actually really good. Only the persona of Princess Mindy was a bit cheesy, but it was forgivable.
I refuse to see this one because I don't want to ruin the legacy of my childhood SpongeBob experience.

I agree, Keepinitreal. I also would say, 1989 is growing up with Spongebob. I actually literally grew up with The Simpsons and Harry Potter. I was 7 months old when The Simpsons first aired and 11 when I read Harry Potter & The Sorcerer's Stone. My sister was actually around that age when the first book came out in 1997 but I didn't really know about it until I was 11 as well. My aunt bought me the book on tape for my birthday that year, lol.

I also should mention, during my Spongebob obsession of 2001-2002, I requested a Spongebob cake for my 13th birthday. My mom did a pretty good job. She even bought Spongebob paddleballs. I had the Operation Krabby Patty pc game, Legend of the Lost Spatula for Gameboy, and Supersponge for Playstation. And there were a few t-shirts as well. lol
I had a Vhs tape handy to record any episode or commercial when it came on TV. I have the original airings of Sailor Mouth/Artist Unknown, Frycook Games/Jellyfish Hunter and Wet Painters/Krusty Krab training video, all on tape. I also had the 1/21/02 episodes, Procrastination, and Just One Bite, but I think I taped over them by accident. I was obsessed with this in the fall of 2001 to spring of 2002, as you can tell by which episodes they were. I don't know why I didn't tape the House Party episode. That tape is still floating around my house somewhere.

How awesome was Operation Krabby Patty? :D I should pop it my laptop one of these days and see if it works.

It was pretty fun actually. One level was collecting jelly from jellyfish. Another was at Mrs. Puff's boating school. Another was collecting all the ingredients for Krabby Patties before Plankton got to them. Another had to do with the fish hooks and cheese or something. There may have been a few others.

I watched the Show from the first episode up to the first movie. After that, I watched it only occasionally. Now flash forward to the second movie, which was even better than the first movie by far, I might get back into it.
