You can tell this movie is for kids who are less familiar with Spongebob

Im 22, never was a HUGE spongebob fan -but of course knew it well enough. When the Sponge Bob Movie came out in 2004 I loved it! It felt bigger and more epic than anything they have done on the show.

For fun I decided to see this movie - understanding Im not the target demographic and not complaining but still curious.

The hardest thing for me is that this movie is for children who aren't as familiar with the show.
They spend 10 minutes introducing the characters and the location.
The first 40 minutes reads just like any spongebob episode - Plankton trying to get the formula all over again.

It was a little annoying to watch because it felt like just a longer episode of the tv show - not an epic movie adventure.
The only time it gets different is when they go above water and are in CGI - which just sucks because the CGI is annoying to watch.

I do think it would have been smarter for them to make it a kids movie but very much know a lot of 90s kids would be coming. The movie had a lot less adult humor than the first one - hardly any actually.

All pretty fair points. The first movie felt like a natural extension and yet a bigger version of the show. This movie felt like one long episode, which I imagine a lot of people will have no problem with. It just felt lazier and rushed. It's almost too similar in plot to the first too - SpongeBob and a team leave bikini bottom and go to the 'real world' to get back a certain object. Change the team members around and the object from a crown to a recipe and it's pretty similar.

Still had fun watching it of course, the above makes it sound like I hated the movie which I didn't. It just didn't have the same wonderment and sense of scale that the first did...
