shareMaybe but it has absolutely no bearing on the story itself and contributes nothing to the plot. Really he's just a narrator because he talks about stuff the dog isn't even present at. It won't ruin the movie at all knowing that Martin is the supposed voice of the dog and could actually improve it. My wife said they implied it was the dog at the beginning.
although it's not revealed that steve martin is voicing the dog till the end credits, in fact the opening scenes of the dog reveal it's the dog talking, the closing scenes confirm what the viewer is thinking throughout the entire movie. no mystery at all.
