Worst Christmas movie ever.

At least, that I've seen.
First, if it wasn't for the decorations, this movie wouldn't even be classified as Christmas.
Second, it's so dull and slow. I was so bored.
Third, there's some very inappropriate lines that I was a little bit uncomfortable it was.

I was expecting a fun, Christmas film about a dysfunctional family. I instead just got a dysfunctional film.

It just wasn't very good. Most of the characters were not very likeable. I only liked the Army guy, the son (Helms), and the waitress.

It had some rough points, but I thought it was pretty good. And as to being a Christmas movie, it's really hard to miss all the Christmas caroling, decorations, Santas, gift-buying, gift-giving, snowmen, etc.--and, of course, family.

reply

It was not very good - and I was one who worked background on several scenes. A disappointment for sure.

no you didn't sorry you have to make sh!t up just to get attention from strangers

it's never Joan Van Ark- Marge Simpsons

I've seen a lot of Christmas Movies and this is at least one of the worst theatrically released Christmas movies I've seen. Maybe if you searched all the made for TV ones out there you might something worse but it would be a task

reply

It seems like it's out early, too. You think they released it so early because it's not very good? People will see it because it's the only Xmas movie out yet.

reply

I watched it today. I enjoyed it, but I won't say that it's the best Christmas movie I've ever seen. I thought it was going to be a lighthearted Christmas comedy. Instead, it was more of a drama.

I like it, miscast but it kept my attention. I liked the story with the daughter and soldier.

I thought Olivia Wilde's character was very unlikable. Marisa Tomei's character wasn't much better. And Marisa is about 20 years younger than Diane Keaton, but they played sisters that had grown up together?

I agree. I was very disappointed. I was expected to see another Love, Actually, but this movie was terrible. False advertising lured me in. It was not a "feel good" movie at all, it was just plain depressing. Most of the actors seemed to be phoning it in, which is disappointing for a cast full of big names. What a shame.

reply

It was a bad movie, filled with bad energy. There were two separate fights (arguments) in my theatre alone when I watched it. Can't really tell how people fight at a Christmas movie, but it's probably because this one had none of the Christmas energy in it. No frienship, together ess or family, just some people who were more believable in their hate for each other than in their coming together.

But I replied to your comment to say something about your mentioning of 'false advertising.' You have to understand something about movie adevertising (and any advertising for that matter): it is there to get you to see the movie, not to get you to like it. Once you passed the cash register, the ad's purpose is served. It is not a 'nice' and truthful approach, and our expectations would be better calibrated if everybody understood this simple fact: advertising is always true. It is simply true to its own interests, not ours.

Yeah I went in to see this movie thinking it would be a comedy about a dysfunctional but loving family coming together at Christmas. Kind of like The Family Stone which is not a perfect Christmas movie, but there's a certain amount of warmth and affection scattered throughout the story that makes it enjoyable...

Annnnd I could tell by 20 minutes in that this wasn't going to be what I thought it was.

Everyone in the family was depressed, miserable, and detached. Which would be fine if there was some kind of gradual resolution at the 50% percent mark...but no. The resolution was rushed at the 95% percent mark!

I HATED the narration/flashback that kept popping up throughout the movie. I hated the complete miscast of Amanda Seyfried as the waitress. She is WAY too young looking to be Ed Helm's would-be love interest. And then there's the dog at the end. THE DOG. If you've seen the movie, you know what I'm talking about.

The only part that was only somewhat cute was Olivia Wilde's story line and that's mostly only due to the guy being cute/funny.

Not worth the $10 for a ticket. It was more like a depressing movie that just happens to take place at Christmas.

She was way too young to be Alan Arkin's love interest!

But, I think that was the whole point. It was certainly not miscasting -- the age difference was intended.

And while I loved the chemistry between Wilde and Lacy, their story was the most predictable of them all. When he left her in the living room, I knew he would quickly come back.

Couldn't stand to see Diane Keaton kiss John Goodman--Yuk! They weren't a believable couple, especially when he was in his big, red plaid undershorts! Keaton is always a classy lady, but why did her character have all the hot dinner platters of food sitting on the kitchen table before the guests had even arrived? And when did she make all that food when she was out at the mall and sledding all day? Sorry, but those things bother me in movies.

reply

^ Those things bother me too. Also the family seemed to be eating at the table for hours, but no one even carved the turkey before it fell on the floor when the power went out.

reply

Amen. SO glad that I am not the only one who thought so.

reply

Same here. Saw it today and it suuuuuuuucked.

The characters were all one dimensional and the majority of them were unlikable.

The plot was a mishmash of stories that went nowhere and even ignored things that happened earlier in the movie.

The acting was so half-assed I swear they should call the movie "Even Good Actors Can Phone in Their Lines".

All in all it was a big let down.

OH god this move was so terrible, if it was in the free DVD bin I would pick it up and throw in in the trash
