"Stop" signs in Lille?

This is a really trivial point, but it made me curious, and I wanted to ask the question in hopes somebody can answer before IMDB shuts these boards down.

The movie is set in Lille, but twice we see Adele leaving her parents' home in the morning, and she passes an American style Stop sign--red, octagonal, and with the English word "stop" on it.

I've never been to Lille, but I've been to other places in France and never saw any such American style traffic signs. Does anybody know whether this is normal there? And why?

Throughout France (and most of Europe), Stop signs say "STOP".

In Québec, though, they say "ARRÊT".
