no Oscar nom for Ralph Fiennes?

i thought his performance and delivery of some of the tongue twisting dialogue was remarkable, surely deserved an oscar nomination for this?

anyone agree?

reply

I agree.

As good as the Best Actor performances that were nominated certainly were, I must admit that I have grown a bit tired of actors who play people who have lived in real life getting more recognition than those actors who create something totally unique. 4/5 nominated 2014 Best Actor performances were portrayals of people who have lived - to be glib, it's like: "... really? The original stuff didn't make the cut this year?"

That's why - apart from the fact that his performance was amazing and I've always found him to be a generally underrated actor - I was really pulling for Michael Keaton to win for Birdman. Yes, the impressions of Stephen Hawking, John du Pont, etc. were impressive - but I'm much more enthralled with original performances of original characters; subsequently, I thought, like Keaton in Birdman, Fiennes was extraordinary and delivered something far more memorable in The Grand Budapest Hotel than the great impressions of 2014.

I totally agree. His accent on that movie was amazing. And he didn't even get nominated!?

reply

Yes! He was wonderful!

Ralph Fiennes' accent and delivery of the fast-paced, foul-mouthed and anachronistic dialogue was stolen from the British comedians—
