The president was weak [ SPOILERWARNING ]

When the president finds out that Roger went over his head, and caused
a situation that could endanger earth and his wife, he let Roger life..
that's a sign of weakness.

Me personally would've asked for a weapon from the Secret Service agent
and then shot Roger in the knee, and then for each time he said anything,
i would've shot him in the other knee, then the elbows, then shoulders...

But i loved the movie because it shows what happens when you let idiots make
the call and it toasted the earth thanks to a stupid politician.

Just part of what is wrong with this whole film. There is no way an advisor to the president would make such a decision. There is no way they would change the person in charge of such an operation right in the middle of trying to save their lives. It was one of the most absurd things that happened in a long list of absurdity. Absolutely stupid beyond belief. The protocol for firing their engines was bizarre, at best. And as has been stated in other threads, the science was not researched at all. Total bunk.

Oh, and when that roger ahole tells the president he needs to sign the paper saying he is not competent, and the president tells him to get out of his sight, the guy stays and the president does nothing. What a load of crap. That pos roger undercut the president several times, caused this whole event by taking the guy in charge out and replacing him, and refuses to do what the president tells him. Exactly how many presidents would keep a turd like that around? You would have to be a pathetic loser to keep roger around.

And the characters all acted so odd. Like when the Hispanic kid is watching the crazy lights coming at his house and he fights with his mother to run towards them. Stupid stupid stupid.

then that tool who caused the explosion in the first place by hanging up the phone because, "he was in charge," keeps blaming craig. And he then acts like all the privately employed individuals are somehow under his command. I am not sure what the point of all this was, but the people who caused this whole mess kept being allowed to be in charge. Nobody was calling them on it.

1. Roger makes the decision to supplant craig. President finds out and does nothing. He consistently undercuts the president. It is obvious this advisor has a character flaw. What dingbat of a president keeps this guy around? It took way to long to have him confined.
2. Don, the guy who supplanted Craig, then takes over while not having any real understanding of the situation or how to fix it. He then cuts the communication between Craig and his girlfriend where he was telling her what to do so that this would not happen. Yet this guy acts like he knows everything and has done nothing. If I was craig I would have beat the crap out of him. It would not have made things any worse, and likely would have made things better as he would be out of the way.
3. people are more stupid than normal in this film than what I find is typical. and I find humans typically to be fairly stupid. I constantly wanted to slap people in the movie upside the head and tell them to stfu.
