Fiction vs documentary

A good film although with some flaws. We are lead to believe this is a documentary. In that case I find it disturbing that when Petrov meets his mother for the first time after 20-30 years absence, why does the mother not react that there is another person (with a film camera!) also visiting her? The part of the story that is about the reunion with the mother feels fake.
