The Dreaded "Does It Get Better?"

Hi everyone,

I've been watching this show for enjoyment, to no avail, for four episodes now. Although I had a few chuckles here and there, the reason I stopped watching was because the sexism on the show was getting too uncomfortable. I'm a triple minority and don't offend easily but the show is genuinely shocking in its portrayal of men. Four episodes in and not a single positive (or even neutral) portrayal of men so far; the show's antagonists have all been male, and men sexuality/anatomy was made the center of several unfunny jokes. I'm gay so I tried to relate to the female perspective(?) and enjoy the ride but the show was never funny per se and at some point you start to wonder whether comedy was the show's goal at all and if the creators just wanted an outlet for their frustrations against men or men in the industry. I know only four episodes are left but I honestly don't want to bother if the comedy (and the dreaded music) doesn't get any better and the sexism doesn't subside.

Maybe don't watch it then?

As a gay man you should know that men are dumb.

I'm straight, I think we deserve all the sexist humor these girls send our way. I especially loved the T.J. Miller episode where the girls went out on several dates and the guys didn't even know they hadn't spoken a word.

If you don't like the show, that's fine. More power to you. 4 eps in you should already know if you want to continue watching it or not. You shouldn't need advice from internet strangers on whether you should continue watching or not. You are an adult and should have figured that out after an episode or two.

It's only eight episodes and there won't be a second season. It would take like two and a half hours to burn through. Watch the first hour and decide if it's this or finally getting around to Hudsucker Proxy or Dr. Strangelove. Godfather Part 2.

I like both actresses so I decided to give this show a try and I made it through half of one of their "quirky" smug songs where they bash men and other women that aren't like them and gave up on it. However; I did catch a show later in the series where they are being stalked by an ex friend that used to be in the band and got a few laughs out of that one. The blonde girls new show with Natasha Lugero (not sure how it's spelled and it looks funny.

I personally did not find it sexist against men and I had kind of expected it would be. I thought they skewered their own foibles twice as much as they skewered anything else so it didn't feel as if I as a dude was being particularly attacked or anything. Quite honestly, some of the stuff they mention is just stuff I always think would seem weird to a girl, ie what balls look like and whatnot. I didn't find it meanspirited or anything for them to mention it. The same thing with talking about hand jobs and whatnot, I thought it was more like they were just discussing not quite being certain what to do, and it being a bit of an awkward situation. I just thought it was all interesting and funny. But I'm not jumping on you, the post was appreciated.
