Really?

Is this for real?

I remember this title being part of a throwaway gag in MAD magazine when I was a kid. Garfunkel of Simon and Garfunkel and Oates of Hall and Oates cut an album together, called "Partners without Partners" - trying to rejuvenate their failed careers without their more famous partners.

Anyone know anything about this show? Is it really a show about Art Garfunkel and Oates? Or is it just a coincidental title?

Garfunkel and Oates is the stage name of the two main stars. They are a musical comediens. Pretty funny if you ask me. They have had some guest spot experince Scrubs(Kate) and Big Bang Theory (Riki) foe example. Go to to youtube and search Garfunkel and Oates. They ahve some really funny songs.

Garfunkel and Oats *beep* rock!! They are both beautiful, and talented, and you might just laugh until you pee yourself. Check out "Sex with Ducks", "Go Kart Racing"....hell, check 'em all out.

They picked those names because their both well known second fiddles. Art Garfunkel made a lot of solo albums after he and Paul Simon parted ways but never had a hit song. John Oates has made 3 solo albums with no hit. Just a few nights ago I discovered Garfunkel and Oates' Youtube videos. Like someone else here said I almost laughed til I peed. Warning! They are very irreverent. If you offend easily don't watch.

Actually, the theme song from Watership Down was a huge hit for Art Garfunkel worldwide, just not in the USA:

I should have known that. I've seen it enough times.

Garfunkel's version of "I only have eyes for you" was also a number one hit in the UK in 1975.

IFC network announced an eight-episode Garfunkel & Oates season premiere for Thursday, August 7 at 10:00pm ET/PT. :)

reply

Thanks! Riki and I are from the same town. She is a clever one...

reply

I just finished watching the first two episodes on the IFC On Demand. Very funny. They're not afraid to get edgy.

reply

Edgy? What's edgy about it? The 'gay wedding' song? We've been hit over the head about gay marriage and having to accept it as 'normal' that there's nothing edgy about that. Oral sex? Deep Throat was what, 40 years ago? And the 'Rule 34' joke? If there's a rule about it, it isn't edgy.

BOHICA America!

reply

You're right there's nothing edgy about promoting human equality. And yes it is normal. Whether you want to accept it or be a bigot is entirely up to you.

I don't know. I'm with the other poster and prefer my comedy sans sanctimony or smut. Go figure.

reply

Calling things smut is sanctimonious. Go figure.

reply

Really? Smut is just another word and is related to pornography. I understand that one of the episodes took place in a porn shop . . . or am I wrong?

reply

So mentioning pornography is smut? Thanks for mentioning "pornography" that you're apparently ignorant about then.

reply

You're just looking to argue, aren't you? Feisty little thing . . . when you're able to converse without putting words into my mouth, we can return to the discussion. Toodles.

reply

Says the person who calls the show, that they apparently haven't even seen, smut. The person who actually believes that a TV14 show has pornography in it. Don't pout just because your ignorant and hypocritical observations are pointed out for what they are. Ta Ta.

reply

Don't fret the show isn't aimed at you. It was made for people with a sense of humor.

reply

No, but see, it's made for people with a sense of humor. That's why you don't like it.

reply

I was sad when I saw episode #2 because I knew that it would (unfortunately) spell the deathknell for eventual renewal.... Sadly, there are just too many bigots and prudes in America. Therefore, it's edgy.

reply

Edgy? What's edgy about it?

Riki vomits while giving head.

Kate dates a guy who is into her cuz he thinks she's mentally retarded and reminds him of his similarly afflicted sister.

Kate falls asleep while a guy is inside her.

Riki goes on a rant to college kids telling them to drop out and get pregnant while they're still young.

Kate accidentally invites several older men to a "kazoo parade", where they expect her to fellate all of them.

And so on.

The show has a general tone and attitude that is edgy by US TV standards.

If they ever become a trio they could change their name to Garfunkel, Oates & Messina.
