Opening Scene in Bar

Was that scene a dream of Liv Schreiber's character?...dreaming that he meets his wife in a bar and sleeps with her after 2 minutes of conversation? Or, was that how they really met, and then the next scene is that they're already married?

Dumb if that's how they met.

Just starting to watch it now.

Neither. It was their form of foreplay. They would go out to dinner and pretend that they didn't know each other. As the movie moved along, it became an indication of their relationship--they always had to pretend they were other people to communicate with each other.

Truth be told, I had to see you one more time, even if it was from a distance.

I think it was exposition - it was showing you that they were trying to spice up their marriage by using these role playing scenarios. Later you realize that it is mainly Nina's doing because she is trying to hold on to him, considering she mentions to Lynn that he's cheated at least 4 times (that she knows of) before she catches him with Martha. It was a little confusing until you realize that they are married in the next scene. At first I thought maybe this is how they met and then flashforward, but it is clear that they are role playing. Liev's adorableness aside, I would have kicked his tush to the curb long ago.

Note: adored Larry! Best part of the film was that dog, especially how sweet Liev and he were together. He really was great with the dog. I cracked up at the end where Larry was "humping" the merry-go-round seat - it is when he realizes that guys screw because they have to stick it in a hole - any hole will do.

I also kind of laughed that Larry was named after Larry Csonka. That is the second dog in a movie with an interesting celebrity name. Just watched a horror flick where the dog was named Page after Jimmy Page.

I fought the war for your sort!
Bet you're sorry you won!
