Who could honestly not recognize the voice of their spouse? The speech patterns too. Plot problem.
Maybe she's a voice actress? Or used a foreign accent?
shareBecause I'm Dutch, I recognize the accent she supposedly has as Dutch. The woman that answers in the first scene of the trailer speaks Dutch, and Liev's charachter seems to understand here which I thought was a bit off.. Anyways, Tripplehorn is not a Dutch actress and therefor must have used a coach to teach her the 'Dutch accent'. Although in my opinion... the Dutch accent isn't that hard to fake lol I'm fluent as can be and I annoy my friends with that particular accent it all the time lol
shareI got off the train when he didn't recognize her voice. There are inflections and tones in peoples' voices, it's one of the reasons you love somebody, that "sound" they have. I can't imagine him having no suspicion whatsoever. It's too important an element of the film to have it be so incredible. Also I can't imagine her still being so fresh and young at heart with a husband who was a serial cheater. She would be much "harder" and more bitter in my opinion.

If you're speaking a foreign language or, by the same token, if you do a faithful foreign accent, your voice inflections will completely change from those inflections you make when speaking in your own maternal language.
