the 2nd episode...

Im confused. Coral called the bad kids, the "blacks". But then in another episode the aboriginals referred to themselves as blacks. So i googled if aboriginals were considered black and they kind of are (although I just don't see it). So my question, why was coral calling the bad kids black and saying all the blacks are bad, when she technically is black, being an aboriginal herself?

Coral is what is called "self-hating". She tries to separate herself from her identity because other blacks in her neighborhood are committing crimes and the media of course makes it seem like all blacks commit crimes which is false but she believes it.

As for the term "black", it refers to skin color and the fact that they're not "white". Not because they're african but because they're indigenous and related to dark-skinned aborigines. They would never be accepted by European Aussies as "white". If you know the history of American blacks, then Aussie blacks' history is not much different. They often live in segregated or working class areas and are often racially profiled. Thus the term "black" or "blackfella" is kind of like "outcast".
