famous american comedian in last story?

Who is the famous American comedian Jeffries talks about in the last story of the set? I tried googling it but I can't find the headliners in the Just For Laughs festival in 2005. Does anyone know?

reply

I have been searching high and low since I first saw this on epix.

reply

can't find it either ...

Have you found it?

reply

I don't remember Jim specifying that the comedian was American... I'll have to check that...
Anyway, I found several of the main acts that performed that year... And the list so far includes:
Jim Belushi
Greg Giraldo
Eddie Izzard
Harland Williams

Tommy Tiernan
Lee Mack,
Noel Fielding,
Adam Bloom,
Danny Bhoy,
Alan Carr
Rhod Gilbert
Doug Stanhope
Derrick Lengwenus

With that being said... I still have no idea who it could be... I sincerely doubt 18 years old hot Canadian girls would 'loose their *beep* over Jim Belushi, or Eddie Izzard for that matter... And Eddie wasn't a movie star back in 2005... Also, maybe it's the nail polish, but he doesn't strike me as a rapey type of guy... Greg Giraldo was famous and American, and I could see him getting along with Jim Jefferies, and being the recipient of his admiration -which I can't really see with the last two-, however, he never got to be a famous movie star, and also, he didn't seem like the type to yell "I'm gonna make sure you never work with me again".
The other names don't really scream "really famous celebrity" to me... So either I missed a name, failed to recognize the fame of one of them -maybe one of them is very famous in the UK-, or Jim was just throwing us off, for legal reasons or whatever...

I think there's someone else. It's probably someone like Dane Cook. Famous American Comedian, movie star at that time in 2005-2006. Maybe that's a lofty claim but the way Jim described it made it sound like this guy was kind of a big deal. Not the way you'd describe Harland Williams, or Jim Belushi.

I thought since this was in 2012 that 5 years ago would be 2007...which would leave me to believe that Damon Wayans is the comedian he's talking about.

Probably. Major Payne was the closest thing to a real movie star at that festival and one of the few that could potentially cause a young girl to lose her !@#$.

John Pinette was there and in a few movies, but I don't see him trying to rape anything besides a buffet table.

You're right on the 2007 thing. Not sure about the festival, but according to this Comedy Central bio: http://www.comedycentral.co.uk/comedians/jim-jefferies/#bio He toured with Dennis Leary that year. It says in America but American tours leak into Canada often.

reply

Well I'm pretty sure it was some one at the festival, and Denis Leary doesn't fit the bill to me even tho he's been in movies. The big clue Jeffries gives is that he calls the guy a "movie star". Obviously Damon Wayans doesn't fit the bill currently, no one on the festival lineup does...but Wayans is definitely the only one I remember being a Hollywood leading man or "movie star" at some point. That little run he had from '91 to '96: Last Boy Scout, Blankman, Major Payne, Bulletproof, Great White Hype, Celtic Pride, Mo' Money. I can't find where I found the lineup at before right now, been searching the internet hard and I can't find it.

I think the 2007 thing is WRONG because Jim Jeffries mentions that he came back two years later. I found that Jim was there in 2005 and 2007, no record of 2009. So... it was 2005 most likely.

Found this:

http://www.chortle.co.uk/news/2005/05/26/220/the_full_montre

Jim was in: "The Nasty Show alongside Doug Stanhope; and Steve Hughes, Rhys Darby and So YouThink You’re Funny? winner Nick Sun take part in a Down Under show"

reply

The part where he says he came back 2 years later could be just a joke because it's leading him to say that he bangs that girl from the first time...maybe he came back through town and slept with her rather than performing at the festival again.

reply

watch it again he said he came back the year he was filming this special 2012 not 2 years later.

there was a couple of big names that year according to this article including Howie Mandel also he didn't say American.

Given the run-in I had with his brother, where we argued over his comments that he wished he were a rapist on Halloween so he could "clean up" on all the young girls dressed like sluts, I am almost certain it was Damon Wayans. That whole family seems like a bunch of sleazy losers.

reply

Robin Williams...movie star...coke head...kind of rapey...definitely Robin Williams...I bet it wasn't even at Just For Laughs...probably changed that bit and the country to protect "the innocent"

He says it was the first time he was flown overseas and performed in a theater so it has to be 2005. Robin Williams did indeed perform that year. Jim Belushi is a possibility. He was a movie star in the 80s and 90s and - believe it or not - According to Jim was a hit show that was on for eight seasons. So it's possible that 18 year old girls would get excited over someone from TV. I've heard nothing but bad stories about him. I looked at pictures of him from the festival and he looks hopped up on something. Someone on Reddit claims that Jefferies stated it was Robin Williams at a show.

I too think it was 2005, cuz I thought he said he went back 5 years later in 2010. So, original year would be 05.

reply

He didn't say it was 2010. He said that he went back "this year" which was probably 2012. So really "5 years ago" would have been 2007 but that wasn't the first time he was overseas.
