Big problem with initial phone call

I am just watching this movie now. I have a big problem with the phone call where Finkel is called at home to ask for his opinion on Longo using his identity. The other reporter just runs straight into the whole spiel from Finkel simply saying "hello"! I know that's a bit pedantic but with such an important call surely he should have asked if he was talking to the correct person, he could have got a wrong number or been talking to Finkel's dad/brother/friend or anyone else.

Just watch that scene again, it just doesn't play out like real life which is impoetant considering it's such a pivot point in the movie.
