I was let down and what's with the repeated shots of Franco's hands?

Is the true story that this guy is a wingnut and convinced a disgraced reporter to believe in him?
Why did we have like a hundred shots of Franco's hands in close up? Unless that's like a Tarantino foot thing, in which, to each their own. Maybe the guy has lovely *beep* hands.
How did Finkel even do the NY Times editorial crime? If I'm not mistaken, it was an NYT story that originally burned their reputation in the 80's for that series on crack in America, right?
So after that, they didn't start triple checking and vetting sources?
Sounds like *beep* to me.
And just to the overall point of the movie: Guys kills family. Uses alias. Talks to alias. Alludes to some retarded conspiracy which he is not at liberty to discuss. Then discusses it in veiled terms. No one believes him. Death row. Alias writes book about all the non-intrigue of the whole story.

That's some compelling cinema.
