Since when is living through a renovation a nightmare?

The people on this show must be awfully pampered people to act like a renovation is the worse thing in the world! I have lived through one and doing dishes in the bathroom sink isn't the worse thing in the world! I haven't lived through the affects of a natural disaster, but people who have lived through something like that realize what turning their life upside down is about - the people on this show just look shallow and foolish. The whining by these people is tiresome and makes the brothers look like saints for putting up with them.

I know. And again, it's a choice. Nobody is forcing you to renovate unless you lost your house to a storm. I was always excited during my renovations. Nothing like having a brand new kitchen put in!

Funbuckett - I agree 100%! I loved knowing the end result would be a new kitchen. I loved seeing the daily progress and the end result was well worth it. And my goodness, I managed to use a toaster oven to cook my family meals - I even made casseroles. The people on the show act like all they can eat is toaster waffles and pizza ordered out. I just find it laughable and a bit pathetic.

I can tell you from my personal experience my kitchen reno was a little rough. I didn't have a sink -- no water, nothing, and had to wash dishes/pots in my little bathroom sink -- and we didn't have money until the insurance kicked in and they dragged their feet. I had a stove and refrigerator and that's it. Everything else was set up in the living room. It WAS a mess. I'm glad it's over and my new kitchen is beautiful. (It was a water accident that happened.)

I've never lived through a renovation. I know it would not be easy, but these people are crying after what? A day or two? Most of these renos are done in two weeks or less. With that time, I would eat out as much as possible and use the grill and paper plates.

I've lived through a floor redo by an unscrupulous contractor that went on for 4 months(!) just after getting divorced with a 8 and 5 year old. It was bad but I wouldn't call it a nightmare. We all slept in the den together and we made it fun.

I agree with everyone, to call something a "nightmare" is being a drama queen/king. Especially when you have reputable contractors who are doing the work for free. A real nightmare would be someone in your family eing ill, not having to all sleep in the same room--we did it all the time in the 1970s when we had 1 air conditioner!
