Average Western - no surprises or anything different

"Forsaken" is your average Western about a gunman who put down the gun hoping to live in peace but who, naturally, is pulled back into the fray with a gun fight at the conclusion. Kiefer Sutherland is said gunman, and his father Donald Sutherland plays his dad here too. They are okay together, but there wasn't anything in the script to really give these guys some meat to chew on. Demi Moore has a bit role of no importance, and Michael Wincott plays the hired gun for the bad guys. The main problem in this movie are the bad guys. They do things that are plain stupid, and honestly, they remind me of a group of stupid high school kids running around together. And for whatever reason the town folk just didn't have the guts to fight back with these numbskulls. The final battle was well shot though, with the bullets heavy and followed by thunder. If you are a fan of the genre there are not a lot being released so have a watch of this as a rental, but don't expect anything more than a diversion. ** out of 4 stars.
