Demi is a little old for the part

I realize that Demi & Keifer are only a few years apart in age but I thought she looked a little old for the part. I would assume that the story would be that he left as a 20 something &a she would be the same. If he has supposedly only been gone for 10 or so years that would make them in their 30s. Maybe he was supposed to be several years older than her, it still would make him possibly in his 40s which he could pass for, but not her. Just my opinion.

She's badly miscast here. I think her old friends are throwing her a bone giving her roles like this. She was distractingly bad in this.

I think if you could actually cut out all of her scenes and it would be a better movie.

She looks the same age as John Henry, maybe even a little younger, which makes sense as they obviously knew each other as kids. John Henry easily looks 50 years-old.

BOTH were too old for the role.

If the film is set in 1872 (7 years after the end of the Civil War) then both would be "old" people for the time if they were in their early 40s. Both look like they are on the hard side of 50, meaning that both would have already been married and or widowed by that point in their lives.

Decent film that suffered from serious miscasting.

People who worked the land, that braved harsh winters and working out in the sun all summer aged more. If you look at old photographs you'll notice that 25 year olds look 40 or more. 40 year olds looked 55, and 60 year olds were dead.

I think it was believable that Kiefer and Demi were both early 40's and donald sutherland was around 60. So he would be dying soon of old age.
