Why is the last?

"Doug Walker has confirmed that this will be the last anniversary movie." Why? Is the site going down? Have they run out of money? What's going on?

reply

When and where did he confirm this will be the last anniversary movie?

The quote is from IMDb trivia section. And all the trailers has the slogan "The Last Chapter" or something like that. And I do remember that Walker said something about the subject on his Facebook account or somewhere.
I have never been a big Doug Walker/Nostalgia Critic/ThatGuyWithTheGlasses.com fan (don't get me wrong, I do like the guy/character/site) but I really enjoy these silly anniversary movies and I just want to know if it's true that there won't be any after To Boldly Flee.

P.S. After thinking it over, I have to admit that I am a fan, quite a big one indeed. Whatever, shoot me.

The only official statement I know of so far was that this would be the last anniversary special "of this scale" - I can't remember if it came from Doug Walker's Facebook or Holly's twitter feed (HR director for TGWTG).

From what I understand, having listened to several commentaries for Kickassia and Suburban Knights, it's not only very time-consuming and stressful to film them (they nearly cancelled Suburban Knights due to the difficulties) but also quite costly in needing to fly everyone to the set and accomodate them while they're there.

That said, it's possible they might put the kibosh on the anniversary specials if its too difficult to do, but I think it'd be a shame - I really look forward to them.

Thank God! They are terrible. They need to stop this.

Those films aren't meant to have Hollywood quality! Maybe your expectations were too high? Their films are not for everyone! ;D

I have to say that the comedy of this installment is much better compared to their previous films!

reply

It has nothing to do about Hollywood, the quality of the film is terrible. Even as a NC fan I see this as a terrible film, why does Doug see the need to plot a movie using nothing but bad pns and references of different movies. This film comes across as one of those lame "insert adjective here" movies, which is ironic because all these critics continually use those films as examples in their reviews of bad films.

He finally realized their movies suck.

It is the last anniversary special...it is also the end of the Nostalgia Critic as a weekly show...the character may appear in a special episode from time to time...and Doug will continue to do his other characters...but the Critic is pretty much retired...Doug's reason...he felt they had done all they could with the character...and even though the Critic is super popular...after some 250 shows he felt it was time to move on and go out on top.

As far as Channel Awesome and thatguywiththeglasses.com are concerned...they are not going anywhere...in fact they are expanding and will be doing more NEW shows here in the near future as they have purchased an actual studio to shoot in and will be sending out open casting calls for those new shows.

Doug looked very excited in the video he posted over the weekend on the website explaining all of this cool news.

I don't know. But i don't know why this "movie" got an 8.0 rating on IMDB either. It's not terrible for what it is, but as a movie, it doesn't deserve the 10/10 rating most users gave it.
