As one of the goofs listed mentions, it appears that they call CO2, carbon dioxide, "carbon monoxide" by accident/ignorance throughout the entire movie, and CO2 makes much more sense in the situation. There's a display early on that shows CO2 and they read it as "carbon monoxide," and less than 10 minutes into the movie (I can't remember exactly what time it is), they pretty clearly cut the audio from one of the actors, because he mouths "C-O-2" but all you hear is "C-O."
So someone realized along the line their mistake and I guess did the best they could? It's still one of the most blatantly incorrect bits of science I've seen in film, and the fact that it's so simple, that you learn about it as early as middle school, makes it all the more strange
